It’s that time of year again! Pumpkin everything, there is a chill in the air (except if you live in LA, then it’s still in the upper 80s) and if you’re anything like me, you’re itching to color your hair for a new fall look. Celebrity hair stylist and my go to guy for the perfect long layered haircut, Jesse German, sat down with me to talk fall hair.

What is your favorite hairstyle trend for fall?

My favorite fall hairstyle is the long bob. I think it’s a refreshing change from the long flowing locks of summer and a great way to clean up your ends and start fresh for fall. It gets off all of those dry summer ends and adds a sophistication that’s perfect for fall. It also looks great loosely tucked into a light fall scarf. I also love a long layered chest length look with subtle soft layers around the face. This low maintenance look is effortless and looks great with a loose wave and super sexy with a richer color for fall.

Most people like to go darker for fall. What is the best (fool proof) way to enhance your color without going too dark?

I think the trick to going darker for fall is to stick with warmer tones, it gives the hair a richer tone that makes it look healthier again. The best way to achieve this is to ask for a gloss from your stylist. A gloss will give the hair incredible shine to enhance your new color and also condition your hair to repair it from the inside out. Even if you want to stay blonde, you can add some warm low lights to give your color dimension. You don’t have to become a brunette to enhance your color for fall.

What is the best way to maintain your new fall color?

I love the KERASTASE conditioning treatments and masks for fall, they really help quench thirsty hair!

Which celebrity do you think has the best fall hair color?

I am obsessed with Lauren Conrad’s darker look for fall. She kept a halo of light pieces around the face and a touch of a lightness at the ends but took it way down from a summer ombré. She definitely warmed up her skin tone with this fall look.
